Modern workplace. Locked down.

IT admin. Modern workplace and security.

I've spent over six years in IT ops and Microsoft 365. I've been hands on with Intune for a year now, and I'm still digging into Entra ID, Purview, Defender, and the security side. I prefer calm ops over firefighting.

What I fix

Stuff you actually run into when you're the only IT person, and how I deal with it.

  1. Lost or unmanaged laptops

I enrol devices properly, push the basics, and make sure a missing laptop can be locked or wiped. Not just another row on a spreadsheet.

  2. Messy permissions and access

I clean up who can open what. Groups beat one off permission grants. I try to leave a trail so the next change is boring, not scary.

  3. Phishing clicks

I close the obvious doors, show people what a bad mail looks like, and keep the cleanup calm when someone still clicks.

  4. Scattered support requests

I put an internal ticketing system in place so support has one place to land. Clearer queues, less chasing people on chat.

  5. Intune from scratch

Built my company's Intune setup from scratch: enrolment, compliance and app deployment.

  6. Joiners and leavers

Built an onboarding and offboarding request form in Microsoft Forms for HR, so accounts and devices are ready before day one.

About

I run IT on my own for a small business, with over six years in modern workplace and security work.

Day to day I keep endpoints, identity, and the usual Microsoft 365 tools running so people can get their work done. A lot of that is general IT ops. Intune has been hands on for over a year now.

I'm still learning more on Intune, Entra ID, Purview and Defender. On the proper security side I'm honest about being early: I read more than I write, and I'm studying part time for a Bachelor of IT, Cyber Security and Business Information Systems.

I like clear docs and calm handling when something breaks. I try to leave the next person a slightly better trail than I found.

Auto dating PDFs with an Acrobat dynamic stamp

A user had to add their name and the date to dozens of PDFs each day. I made an Acrobat stamp that fills in the date for them.

Documentation is boring until you need it

I run IT on my own for a small business, and I keep finding new reasons to write things down. It saves me repeating work and makes handovers easier.
